David Nelken is Distinguished Professor of Sociology of Legal Institutions and Social Change at the University of Macerata (Italy) and Distinguished Professor of Law at Cardiff University (UK). He is also Visiting Professor of Criminology at LSE (UK) and Visiting Professor of Criminology at Oxford University (UK).
One of the leading sociologists of law in Europe, his recent books include: European Ways of Law (with Volkmar Gessner), Hart, 2007; Comparative Law: A Handbook (with Esin Orucu), Hart, 2007; Beyond Law in Context, Ashgate, 2009; Comparative Criminal Justice: Making Sense of Difference, Sage, 2010; Comparative Criminal Justice and Globalization, Ashgate, 2011. He received an American Sociological Association Distinguished Scholar Award in 1985, lately, the Sellin-Glueck international award of the American Criminological Society in 2009, and, the ‘Podgorecki’ life achievement prize of the International sociological association (RCSL) in 2011. He is an Academician of the UK Academy of Social Sciences.
